Dra. Camila Pastor de María y Campos

Associated Professor, History Division, Center for Research and Teaching in Economics camila.pastor@cide.edu Arab Week in Mexico Coordinator

She is an Associated Professor at the History Division from CIDE. As a researcher —Level I from the National Researchers system— she specializes in social and urban anthropology, nationalism and transnationalism, MENA-LA relations and migration.
She has collaborated in several publications, such as Más allá del Medio Oriente: las diásporas judía y árabe en América Latina (Universidad de Granada; 2012), and El pueblo quiere que caiga el régimen (COLMEX; 2012).
She as also written several articles and specialized texts. Some of her most recent works are: "La creación de un ámbito público transnacional" (Estudios de Asia y África, 2013) and "Anatomía del ámbito público en el mundo árabe" (ISTOR, 2012). Also, she participates actively in congresses, workshops and seminars —nationals and internationals—,and has also organized several forums to encourage the study and understanding of MENA region.

Dra. Indira Sánchez Bernal

Associated professor, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Santa Fe Campus Coordinator of the Arab Week in Mexico

Indira Iasel Sánchez Bernal holds a PhD from the Center of Asia and Africa's Studies, at El Colegio de México. She specializes in the study of the MENA region, holding an Ma in the same institution and a BA in International Affairs from UNAM. She works as associated professor at Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores, Santa Fe  Campus.
She is part of the Project "España y la Integración Euromediterránea: Memoria y futuro de las Relaciones con el Mundo árabe-islámico", from the Workshop of International Mediterranean Studies from the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Her research lines include political and economic reforms in the North of Africa, the debate about Islam and democracy, political links between Socialism and Islamism, the conflict in Western Sahara, and the diplomatic relations between Mexico and the MENA region.

She is author of the book "El espejo de oriente. Reflejando las relaciones internacionales de México con el Medio Oriente-Norte de África, 1821-2010", among others.

Dra. Laila Hotait

Profesor, Communication and Digital Art Departament, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Querétaro Arab Week in Mexico Coordinator

Sound and visual artist of Hispano-Lebanese origin and professor of the Department of Communication and Digital Art at ITESM Campus Querétaro.

Internationally recognized for her documentary work 'The Crayons of Askalan', Laila Hotait studied in Arabic Studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She holds a MFA in Cinema from San Francisco State University and  a PhD in Communication at the Carlos III University Madrid.

Dra. Shekoufeh Mohammadi Shirmahaleh

She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics by Alicante University. Her professional career involves research, teaching and translation. She is currently an affiliate reseacher from the Es doctora en Lingüística Aplicada por la Universidad de Alicante. Su carrera profesional ha consistido en investigación, docencia y traducción. Actualmente es investigadora del Seminar of Hermeneutics at the Philological Research Institute, at UNAM. As a researcher, she specializes in the use of semiotics on literature and the arts, specially in Persian art and culture. Her research inludes literary hermeneutics, simbolic hermeneutics and cultural hermeneutics.
Some of her publications include: "Repetición e iconicidad"; "Sintiendo la palabra: contextos lingüísticos y literarios del icono metafórico"; "Héroes y antihéroes en el Shahnamé de Ferdousí: una visión mítica-ética"; and "La expresión artística postrevolucionaria en Irán". She is member of the International Association for Cognitive Semiotics (IACS) and the Association for Researching and Applying Metaphor (RaAM).

Lic. Miguel A. Fuentes Carreño

Miguel Fuentes holds a BA in International Affairs from El Colegio de México, and is a PhD student in Global Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara. He's a Teacher's Assistant in the Global Studies Department, and a Research Asistant for Prof. Aashish Mehta. He was the Chief of Staff of the Arab Week in Mexico from 2013 to 2017, an he was a research assistant in the History Division at CIDE during the same period. He is co-author of "Actors and opportunities: Interregional processes in the Arab region and Latin American and the Caribbean" (Andreas Schechter ed., Springer Press, dictamination), and author of "Sexuality and Law: Transnational LGBT+ Activism in Lebanon, Egypt and Iran" (Helen Rizzo y Michael Ryan eds., Lynne Riener, in dictamination). He is currently a member of the Middle East Studies Association.
